Eco-Friendly Hotel: A Memorable Family Stay at Coin de Mire Attitude

In August 2024, my family and I embarked on a weekend retreat to Coin de Mire Attitude, a charming hotel nestled in the north of Mauritius. What we discovered there was not just a place to unwind, but a sanctuary that perfectly balances comfort, sustainability, and local culture.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes. The staff at Coin de Mire Attitude took the time to brief us on the hotel’s unique approach to sustainability. One of the first things we learned was that the mini-bar in our room was intentionally left empty. Instead of the usual plastic-wrapped items, the hotel offers a boutique where you can pick up all your essentials—everything from water to snacks—packaged in environmentally-friendly glass containers.

The hotel’s commitment to reducing waste is truly commendable. For instance, if you want tea in your room, it’s provided in a charming glass jar ("un bocal en verre"). If you’re craving a snack like banana chips, peanuts, or moulkou, you simply head to the boutique, where a friendly staff member fills a paper pack with your chosen amount from glass containers. This anti-gaspillage approach not only preserves the environment but also adds a special touch to the entire experience, making you feel good about every choice you make.

The Delight of Taba-J

One of the highlights of our stay was discovering Taba-J, a small, tin-roofed stall that captures the essence of Mauritian street food culture. At Taba-J, you can indulge in local delights like fried gadjacks—snacks that locals often grab on the go. The authenticity of the food, combined with the rustic charm of the stall, made this a must-visit during our stay. It’s a delightful way to connect with the local culture while savoring the rich flavors of Mauritius.

All-Inclusive Comfort in a Tranquil Setting

Our decision to opt for the all-inclusive package proved to be a great one, as it allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience without having to worry about additional costs. We booked a Superior Room at Rs 8,430 per night, and for our two-night stay, the total cost was approximately Rs 16,860 for a couple (around 370 euros). Considering the excellent service, the beautiful surroundings, and the hotel’s sustainable practices, we felt that this offered great value for money.

The hotel’s buffet offered a diverse array of dishes, from traditional Mauritian cuisine to international favorites, all freshly prepared and delicious. The rooms at Coin de Mire Attitude were equally impressive—spacious, impeccably clean, and designed with comfort in mind. Each room served as a peaceful retreat, providing the perfect setting for rest and relaxation after a day of exploring the hotel’s beautiful surroundings.
