During my recent business trip to London, I had the opportunity to indulge in the city's vibrant food scene. After attending the European and African Property & Hotel Awards 2024 at The Marriott Grosvenor Square—an event filled with delicious food and impeccable service—I had a few days to explore the city on my own. From Persian delights in Soho to cozy breakfasts in Shepherd’s Bush, this journey was as much about recharging my soul as it was about savoring every bite. Here’s a rundown of my most memorable dining experiences during this amazing week in London.
Day 1 – Persian Flavors at Berenjak (Soho)
After a long flight, I found myself in Soho, looking for a cozy restaurant to start my culinary adventure. I discovered Berenjak, a Persian restaurant with live cooking and an inviting ambiance that set the tone for the trip.
What I ordered:
Zeytoon – Salkini olives, lemon, and garlic (£4.5)
Koobideh Kabab – Minced lamb shoulder, onions, and black pepper (£19)

I wasn’t up for a large meal after the flight, but these dishes were perfect. The Koobideh Kabab was flavorful and juicy, with just the right amount of spice. The experience was further elevated by the attentive staff and the vibrant atmosphere. For a Michelin-starred experience, it’s an absolute must-visit! Expect to spend around £30-35 per person, including a drink, a starter, and a main.
Family Time and Homemade Delights
That evening, I had the chance to spend time with my cousin and celebrate her son Otto’s 5th birthday. It was a cozy evening filled with warmth, laughter, and amazing homemade food.
Menu highlights:
Salmon toast for appetizers
Homemade pizza topped with fresh tomatoes and mushrooms
Even though this meal wasn’t from a restaurant, it was one of the most special moments of the trip. There’s something about good company and homemade food that money can’t buy.
Exploring The Hoxton, Shepherd’s Bush – Chet’s Restaurant
For the solo part of my trip, I checked into The Hoxton, Shepherd’s Bush—a hotel that exceeded all my expectations. From the warm welcome at reception to the prime location near the Westfield Mall, everything was perfect. I decided to try Chet’s Restaurant, a Thai-American fusion spot inside the hotel.
What I ordered at Chet’s:
Starter: Tingling Onion (£9) – A crispy, golden onion with five-spice, ranch dressing, and sweet chili sauce. It was massive but absolutely delicious!
Main: Sticky Spicy BBQ Pork Rib (£16) – Sweet-glazed pork ribs with a Thai herb salad and nam jim sauce. It was the most tender and flavorful pork rib I’ve ever had!
Drinks:
Lemoss Frizzante – £10 per glass (I had two… because why not?)
Cocktail: Holy Chet! (£13.5) – A mix of Martini Ambrato, vermouth, holy basil, and cucumber.

This meal was a splurge, but it was worth every penny. The food, the ambiance, and the service were exceptional.
A Quick Bite at Kave Café
While exploring the Shepherd’s Bush, I stumbled upon Kave Café, a cozy little spot with a great menu.
What I had:
Cheese & Caramelized Onion Sandwich
Coconut Smoothie

The total was £12, and it was a perfect stop for a quick, satisfying bite. The sandwich was flavorful, and the smoothie was refreshing after a long day of shopping.
A Taste of Vietnam at Pho Restaurant
Later in the week, I ventured into Pho Restaurant for a taste of Vietnamese cuisine. The flavors did not disappoint, though I struggled to finish the generous portions!
Starter: Chicken Summer Roll (£6.95)
Main: Rice Bowl with Chargrilled Chicken (£12.75)
Drink: Coke (£3)

The rice bowl was packed with flavor, and the summer roll was light and refreshing. If you’re in the mood for Vietnamese food, this place is a must-visit.
Burger & Sauce – Game Day Fuel in Wolverhampton
One of the highlights of my trip was attending an English Premier League match: Wolves vs. Man City in Wolverhampton. Before the game, I stopped by Burger & Sauce for a quick meal.
Meal:
Beef burger with cheese sauce fries
Drink: 7-Up

For about £12, this meal was perfect for fueling up before the game. I’m not usually a big burger fan, but this one hit the spot!
Chicken Shop in Soho – A Delicious Twist
Back in Soho, before i headed to NQ64 Arcade Game, I tried Chicken Shop for dinner. Their menu offered unique twists on classic chicken dishes.
What I had:
Thai’d Up Burger (£9.95) – Chicken fillet, lettuce, sweet chili mayo, Thai slaw, and mint.
Ranch Slaw (£2.95)
Bottomless Coke

It was another quick but satisfying meal, perfect for a late evening in Soho.
A Sweet Farewell at Sweet Caroline Café
On my final morning, I wandered through Shepherd’s Bush and discovered a charming café called Sweet Caroline. I couldn’t resist stopping for breakfast.
Breakfast:
Avocado Toast with Burrata & Tomato
Cappuccino

This hearty breakfast was a bit much for 8 AM, but it was so delicious I didn’t mind! The cozy atmosphere made it a perfect place to reflect on the trip before heading home.
This trip to London was not just about work; it was a celebration of food, culture, and self-discovery. Each restaurant I visited offered a unique experience, and I enjoyed every moment of dining alone—it felt empowering and rejuvenating. Whether it was savoring Persian cuisine, indulging in Thai-American fusion, or grabbing quick bites at local cafés, London’s food scene left me inspired and fulfilled.
If you ever visit London, I highly recommend exploring its diverse culinary offerings. Don’t hesitate to dine alone—who knows, you might just get treated like royalty!
